Longer Bio:

Beautiful Beginnings

Kimmoy Matthews was born and raised on the island of St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands which is known as America’s Paradise. Surrounded by a melting pot of cultures, she was exposed to many different people, languages, and beauty which she believes helped to shape her as a multi-passionate, ambitious, and adventurous woman. Even though she lost her mom right before her 14th birthday, she knew that doing well in school was what made her mom most proud. Kimmoy excelled in school where she was a member of the Honor Society and with a love particularly for the Spanish culture; Kimmoy also became a member of the High School’s Spanish Honor Society. She learned how to speak Spanish, cook various dishes, and also helped choreographed performances that incorporated traditional dances such as salsa and mambo. Soon after graduating from High School, Kimmoy traveled to Spain on her own for a semester to further her studies and explore a new lifestyle. She was fully emerged at the tender age of 17 into a new culture where she developed fluency in the Spanish Language and earned her certificate. She did not leave her passion for dancing behind; while there, she took flamenco classes and advanced salsa training as well.

A Leader Emerges

After spending three months in Spain, she went to Michigan Technological University (MTU) to earn her B.S. in Electrical Engineering where she was introduced to a very cold but new way of living. Although she never adjusted to the weather, she quickly took on many leadership roles in the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) and the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) and landed several internships with companies such as the US Naval Research Lab and the Defense Information Systems Agency. Her love of dance did not escape her and she also founded the first ever Hip Hop dance crew at MTU where she was the lead choreographer. Her choreography was inspired by hip hop and dancehall music that was gaining popularity in the states. The popularity of the Hip Hop Crew of MTU grew which led to performances at basketball games, football games, campus events, local events, and an opportunity to perform for BET. Kimmoy also helped to choreograph and performed several African dance routines that were influenced by her friends of Nigeria, Ghana, and Congo.

Bit by the Entrepreneurial Bug

After graduation from college, she moved to the D.C. Metropolitan area where she established her career as a Business and Information Technology Consultant. Her experiences includes providing consultative services for companies such as Accenture, Verizon Business, the Department of Homeland Security and several solo-entrepreneurs in the areas of Marketing, Business Process Design & Improvement, and Customer Relationship Management. As she grew to learn more about the inner-workings of successful business, she began to help friends grow their businesses. She became an eager student of renowned marketing professionals and coaches and applied what she had learned to grow her client base. It is through these experiences where Kimmoy felt that she could offer these services and more to small business owners as a business coach.

Giving Business & Style A New Shape: Curvy

As a plus-size woman who grew up in an environment that embraces her curves, Kimmoy shares her unique cultural background and experiences to help other women do the same.
