Representing the Plus Size Business Niche at the NAMS Workshop

8

In the past few months, I spent a lot of time increasing my visibility and building great relationships within the plus size community. My goal this year is to really focus on delivering more value to my readers, forming more joint ventures, and increasing my client base. There aren’t many events today specifically for plus size business owners and entrepreneurs so I figured an event which focuses on niche businesses would be suffice.

I came across the Niche Affiliate Marketing Systems workshop better known as NAMS and signed up right away when I saw the promos last August. I knew it was different than any of the other big-ticket seminars I’ve heard about but I did have a few reservations…I was not a big fan of  the “sales page” (no offense David) and when I saw the videos, I didn’t think I was part of the demographic. To be honest, I didn’t see anyone who looked like me and I thought that most everyone there was interested in being an “internet marketer” for the internet marketing industry. Inspite of it all, I decided to sign-up anyway and figured it was the day after my birthday and spending it in Atlanta would be a nice treat. So here a few of my favorite highlights:

Day 1 Highlights:

beyouTo jumpstart the day, Aileen gave an excellent motivational talk on Using People (yes, she did!) and she has forever changed my grocery shopping and commuting experience tremendously – that’s where you get the extra 5 or 10 min. you always crave when stressed for time. She also challenged us to not believe everything we think…like does it really take 21, 30, 60 days to develop a habit? If so, why did it take just 1 day to become  a cigarette smoker or a regular on celebrity gossip sites? Hmmm

The Waffle House! Yes, I just love breakfast and I must confess I spent quite a bit of time getting acquainted with the menu over the course of the weekend. Yum!

On a more serious note, I was ecstatic to learn directly from Jeff Herring about article marketing and Lynn Terry who talked about how to take our niche business ideas and structure our corresponding sites based on keywords our target market is searching for. Lynn has the undisputed ability to make niche affiliate marketing seem really simple and even showed us how she was able to profit from really bad examples. The point was we have the know-how to do better so we can expect to see even better results as long as we take action.

Day 2 Highlights:

melynnandreaI’ve never heard of Mark Hendricks but he serenaded us to get the day started by defining success on our own terms. He also helped us realized that Time is not really equal to Money but Time + Money = Lifestyle. Nice huh? By the end of his presentation, I was singing along with 180 people “One step at a time, makes all my dreams come true. One step at a time, it works for me and you.” :)

NAMS showed it’s true colors when the expert panel of Kevin Riley, Willie Crawford, Joey Smith, Jeff Herring, and Maritza Parra all dished on Social Media Marketing Strategies. This entire panel discussion was recorded and is now the product of NAMS 3 which we as attendees received first dibs to sell and earn full commission on. The advice shared is truly priceless and the videos sold like hotcakes!

The BEST part of this weekend for me was the  Set-it-and Forget-It Product workshop with none other Lynn Terry, Kevin Riley, and Sid Hale. While I went to NAMS with my product-based site in mind, I discovered new ways to bring additional value to my readers and clients here on The Curvy Coach. Now, I’m beyond excited about the work I get to do!

Day 3 Highlights:

meatwafflehouseUnfortunately, I missed David’s wife singing and rumor had it that my name was pulled for a free camcorder but if you can’t tell by my smile & the stripes in this pic to the left, I was busy stuffing my face at…you guessed it – The Waffle House.

I also had a free 15 minute consultation with Mark Hendricks (yeah the guy who made us sing) and I felt comfortable explaining to him some of my roadblocks. My challenge is to start my day earlier and to figure out my peak performance hours for 1 week. I’m coming close to figuring out the latter but my goodness, getting up early is a struggle! Don’t tell Aileen that this habit might take 100 days! Oy!

Denise Wakeman did a very informative presentation on how to dominate your niche with a blog. This is where I had another big “a-ha” moment. I didn’t really blog much about the work I’ve done with my clients which I’m sure you can absolutely learn from so expect to see more of that soon. As if that wasn’t enough, I was selected for her HOT SEAT Presentation and she literally ripped my site to shreds! I kid ;-)  Denise provided really great tips and constructive criticism which I’m pretty excited about implementing over the next few days.

wcanddeniseWillie Crawford shared some really clever techniques on list building and his secrets to repurposing content like a machine! He truly understands the power of leverage and has so much knowledge and wisdom to offer, it was an honor to learn from him.

There were lots of other great moments and so much that I learned throughout this weekend. I met so many great people like Andrea Chin, Andrea Amir, Goaskmom, Tishia Lee, Ahmad & his wife, Dan Morris & his parents, Nicole Dean & her mom, Scott Tousignant, Kathleen Gage, Angie Newton, Danielle Johnson, Kelly McCausey, LaShae Dorsey, Terri Brooks, and many more! The networking was truly exceptional and with just less than 200 people it was easy to navigate the crowd and connect with others on a more intimate level…and I even found a few who were interested in working with me to take my plus size niche to a new level.

NAMS is truly a hands-on 3-day workshop where attendees actually learn about niche marketing, apply the techniques, and even earn money right there on the spot. I can go on and on about this awesome event. I got a LOT more out of this workshop than I could ever imagine. Before, during, and after NAMS – David Perdew, his staff,  and his community has helped me tremendously in my business and I look forward to attending next year.

P.S. If you want to dominate your niche or get some niche business ideas then mark your calendars for the next NAMS in August to experience it for yourself. Last time I heard, forty people signed up just a few days after the January workshop concluded. Will you be there?

  1. It was a pleasure to meet you at NAMS. And the one thing you don’t really do is sleep when you attend this conference. It’s worth it though for the connections, the information and the access to people doing, not just talking about it.

  2. Kimmoy, AWESOME post about NAMS. I had so much fun and got so much more out of it than I ever imagined I ever would. So great to meet you and I look forward to watching your business grow. I had a major breakthrough at NAMS and am much more confident that things are going to really happen for my business. The overview you gave here really took me back to last weekend. Such great opportunities we had there and I’m looking forward to August.

Kimmoy, What a great review of NAMS.. I am really glad that I met you. I was actually looking forward to meeting you. It has taken me this last few days just to recuperate. Talking to you was super great, after you mentioned your task from Mark Hendricks, I took it upon myself to make that my task for this week also. I am finding I work better at night.. I think that maybe because I do not like to wake up early. I look forward to a great relationship with you..

You really did sum up the week well. I think I’ve just started recuperating today, but my brain is still way on overdrive.

I’m with Andrea on the waking up early thing. Yes ma’am. I was always taught that 8:00 was a very civilized time for a Southern woman to arise. :)

Of course, with all I learned, I’m still laughing about our conversation about the (non-existent) constitutional rights we had as children.

  5. It was so awesome to meet you at NAMS! I didn’t to spend as much time chatting with you as I would have liked (are you going to be back for NAMS 4 in August???). Great post recapping the event. I still haven’t even had time to write my recap yet!

Great post Kimmoy! I’ve added a link to it from by blog: http://www.Website-ROI-Guy.com

  7. Hey Kimmoy,

Nice wrap up of NAMS 3. I sincerely hope you didn’t feel I “ripped” your blog apart. You’re doing a great job and my wish for you is to boost the effectiveness so you can achieve all your business goals.

    Blog on!

  8. Kimmoy:

Thank you so much for sharing this post with me! I love hearing from someone else just how awesome this event was and am a little “sad” that I missed it but I am excited because I was officially his first person to “sign” up for the August event because of my change in plans.

I don’t think I was even aware of who all the presenters were. I was just told by someone else who had attended in 2009 that I just had to go…so I am totally looking forward to it.

Glad you walked away with so much knowledge that you can implement!

P.S. I won’t say anything if it takes 100 days to learn how to get up earlier (I’m struggling with the same thing myself).
